Freespace Fest is a free two-day outdoor arts festival where artists present outdoor works and audiences bring in their own activities. It is a festival for you to experiment the possibilities of public space and the concept of Freespace as a venue at the West Kowloon Cultural District.

This year the festival is even bigger which means more performances and more room for everyone. With 10 co-curators offering 15 hours of performances and activities covering music, dance, literature, media art, parkour, workshops, talks and open-call programmes by over 400 local and overseas artists, there is plenty to see and enjoy.

Audience participation plays a vital role in this year’s festival so your input is as important as that of the artists. The festival is geared towards interactivity and audience involvement allowing everyone to create their own idea of what “Freespace” means: whether picnicking, bike riding, dancing or playing games.

In order to create a Freespace Fest for all, this year’s programme, venue layout, facilities and support services are all dedicated towards a green and accessible festival that caters to audience from all walks of life.

- an adventurous and alternative new performance venue for Hong Kong

When completed Freespace will provide an exciting new performance venue for contemporary music, theatre and boundary-crossing performances. It will consist of a main performance space that can hold an audience of 450 seated or 900 standing as well as a foyer bar area for live music gigs. Outside there will be an outdoor stage large enough for 100 musicians and an open flat grass lawn where 10,000 people can gather. This area will be a key focal point for all outdoor events and festivals taking place in the district.
