Start the Chinese New Year by opening your senses at Freespace Happening and enjoy the voices of different communities!

Open your ears to the myriad of possibilities of percussive vibrations – from the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra’s percussion ensemble who will straddle classical and pop tunes, to local all-female Japanese taiko group O • Daiko heralding in the new year with incomparable vigour and energy. Renowned artist, stage designer and spiritual guru Tsang Man-Tung will lead his students to awaken our senses with dozens of Tibetan Chanting Bowls that will resound the Central Lawn. Open your ears, also to your own voice, and join “Blank Once”, our family-friendly meditation sessions led by ohmykids’ professional tutor.

Open your arms and dance with our WE Dance programme, which will wrap up this month with a Finale in the Big Circle. Presenting non-stop showcases, workshop, dance hall and open dance floor events, our programme partners and participating dance troupes invite everyone to join in and enjoy the dance. Groups wishing to show their own moves on stage can also register to be part of our dance hall show.

Open your eyes to new perspective to your life questions by consulting The House of Hong Kong Literature’s “Fortune-telling poet”. Answers about love, health and career will be drawn from a “fortune book” of work by different poets. You can also write your New Year wishes at the Literary Pinwheel workshop. Have a different level of appreciation of plants and poetry at “Writing on Leaves – a Wander in the Park”, a guided tour that introduces poems inspired by the plants in the Nursery Park.

This month, we are hosting our first visit from the M+ Rover: Travelling Creative Studio, with local illustrator Rainbow Leung inviting you to enter her studio space set on the specially customized trailer. Rainbow’s One Of A Kind installation includes activities designed to encourage you to clear your mind, relax and observe, appreciates seemingly trivial things in a serious manner and reflect mindfully on simple, everyday things.

Plus, you can be part of FM Theatre Power’s interactive, improvised theatre sessions, get creative in a hands-on DIY spray paint workshop, or join our regular Nursery Park tree tour and workshop. And of course, you can browse our regular Hoikokdaytan 2046 handicraft market and the ohmykids Market for gifts and games of all kinds!

Before you come, don’t forget to download our updated Freespace Happening App that lets you check out what’s on at our handicraft markets and listen to great music any time you want on the new Music Player!
