Sheng and Dan are roles in Chinese traditional opera. Male performers who play Dan are called Qiandan, and female performers who play Sheng are called Kunsheng. From their vocal techniques to their body postures, the performers need to break away from the limit of their innate gender in order to achieve complete similitude from form to spirit.
