What comes to mind when you hear the word ‘DANCE’?
… Ballet?
… Street dance?
… Contemporary dance?

And what about the ‘stage’? Could it be a swimming pool, a shopping mall, a park, or even your bedroom?

The Big Dance Pledge, an international community participatory event, invites us all to make dance part of our everyday lives, everywhere.

On 20 May 2016 – Big Dance Worldwide Performance Day – West Kowloon, CCDC Dance Centre, The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) and HKAPA Dance Alumni Association have invited around 100 participants to take part in Big Dance Pledge 2016 (Hong Kong) and to dance on site at the West Kowloon Cultural District.

The event marks the first Big Dance Pledge performance in Hong Kong, and is the first of several local community events that are due to take place.

Big Dance Pledge began in 2006 in UK as a biennial festival designed to bring people together through dance. The Big Dance choreography for 2016 is devised by internationally acclaimed dancer/choreographer Akram Khan. Created for all types of people and all levels of dance experience it is easy to learn and perform with family and friends, anywhere.

This year, organisers are hoping to reach 100,000 dance enthusiasts around the globe for the last Big Dance Worldwide Performance Day in the series. If you would like to join in by holding your own event on 20 May, or another date, sign up for free at the Big Dance website, and stay connected with other participants by uploading videos or images to the Big Dance Pledge world map.

We hope to see all of you dancing in Hong Kong!
