In light of the current situation, CCDC in Residence 2020 ── Social Distancing Theatre “Joyeux Noël” due to take place on 25–30 December 2020 (Friday–Wednesday) at Freespace has been cancelled. For more information please see our Ticketing Arrangements page or contact us at (852) 2200 0022, firstname.lastname@example.org. The organiser will present a special curated live broadcast version of the show on 25 December 2020 (Friday). For more details, please see the information below.
CCDC resident artist Noel Pong has choreographed her first solo performance. In a small room resembling a black box, she gradually narrows the distance between the stage and the audience, starting an intimate conversation of hearts.
With the theatre closed, the piece will now be performed and streamed live online. There will be two performances on the day, designed to offer two completely different experiences: The first one, taking place at 5pm, will be presented in one continuous take by a handheld camera, providing the audience with an intimate and smooth viewing experience; the second one, starting at 9pm, will be filmed by four videographers simultaneously from various angles, and viewers can pick and switch between the four live feeds at will, personalising their own version of the show in real time.
A meet-the-artist session will be conducted following each performance. In the first session, Noel Pong and CCDC’s Artistic Director Designate Yuri Ng will talk about the creative process of the work. In the second, Pong and Ng will be joined by the four videographers to discuss the relationship between filming and being filmed. Both sessions will be conducted in Cantonese without subtitles.
