Award-winning music producer, music director, composer, arranger and bassist, CMgroovy has been active in the Hong Kong pop, jazz and indie music scene since 2003. An experienced music educator, he has a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and has led high school jazz programmes, clinics for adult bassists and indie band mentorship programmes. CM is also a hands-on father of two children aged seven and four.
Nate Wong is a drummer, composer, band leader, and session player, educated in the United States where he graduated from the Berklee College of Music. Upon graduation Nate was the Percussion Department Head at the Berklee sister school USFQ College of Music in Quito Ecuador. After, Nate was part of a team that opened the Fayetteville Music Factory, a music academy in Arkansas, USA. Since moving to Hong Kong in 2014, Nate has been featured in Freespace Jazz Festival, Hong Kong International Jazz Festival, Hong Kong International Jazz Drummer Festival, and founded the award-winning band Nowhere Boys as well as supported some of Hong Kong’s superstars like Sammi Cheung and touring the world with Luxembourg based jazz trio Dock in Absolute.
Karen Chan is an active musical theatre performer, choreographer and freelance tap dance instructor. She graduated from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in Musical Theatre and Dance, and holds an Advanced II Tap (Honours) Certificate as well as an Advanced Bronze and Silver Tap Certificate (Honours). Since 2000, Karen has taught children’s programmes at a number of local primary and secondary schools. She has also worked as director of dance, children dance and musicals at the Hong Kong Kids Talent Academy, and taught children’s tap dance and jazz dance at HKAPA Excel and children’s song and dance at the Baron Junior Music Academy.
Mandy Petty received her musical theatre training at Laine Theatre Arts in Epsom, England. She was the first winner of the Marjorie Davies Star Tap Award and an international examiner for the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. After settling in Hong Kong in 1981, She began working with the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts since its establishment, and was a full-time lecturer there from 1995 to 2014. For the past 40 years, she has been teaching jazz, tap and musical theatre dance in Hong Kong.
Mandy has served as Honorary Advisor for the Hong Kong Tap Festival and is currently the coordinator of the HKAPA EXCEL’s BTEC Musical Theatre Programme. Her choreographies can be seen in musical productions such as 42nd Street, Crazy for You, Anything Goes and Singin’ in the Rain.
Eve Leung graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with a degree in Musical Theatre Dance. She is a co-founder of the R&T Tap company and a dance educator at the Hong Kong Children’s Choir, the Japanese International School and Ebenezer School.
In 2019, she became an Expressive Arts Therapist after receiving a master’s degree in the field from the University of Hong Kong. Eve applies dance/movement, music and visual arts in the therapeutic process for seniors, students with visual impairment, children with autism, and adolescents with special educational needs at various institutions. She also currently works as a performer, choreographer, and a consultant and instructor of Tap and Jazz at the HKAPA EXCEL.
