The bold makeup used in Chinese opera productions is one of the distinctive features of this traditional art form.
In this two-hour hands-on workshop, Cantonese opera performer King Fa-lui introduces the face-painting process used for lead female and male roles. With guidance from veteran Cantonese opera performer and makeup artist Leong Yee-lin and her team, participants then learn how to apply a basic Cantonese opera makeup, using a white powder base and adding a gradient of red or black around the eyes to exaggerate facial features.
