Central, part of a loose trilogy of films by Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, is a melancholic and dream-like filmic portrait of  Hong Kong, a city filled with wandering souls at the edge of Victoria Harbour. The apparent and deliberate disconnection between the narrative and the imagery within the film amplifies the ghostly presence of the narrator. Together with the prominent use of voice-over, hand-held camera and other cinematic references, Gonzalez-Foerster has perfectly captured a sense of dislocation within the urban landscape, composing an emotional visual-scape of a city that is perpetually slipping through time and place.
