Anson Mak is highly regarded for her original and creative explorations into the media of video and sound. Tra(i)nsient and Winter both engage with the imagery of everyday life. Filmed on a train, Tra(i)nsient incorporates the sound of falling rain and the clamour of the train running along tracks into the footage of passing scenery. The passive shooting method and use of ambient sound serve as a direct contrast to the music video Winter, in which the camera actively interacts with a person along a small trail. Mak’s innovative use of different filmic techniques has established her as one of the pioneers of experimental moving image in Hong Kong.
