From Gulf to Gulf to Gulf

2013, Single-channel video, 1 hour 23 min

From Gulf to Gulf to Gulf is a collaboration between the Indian art collective CAMP and a group of sailors from the Kutch district in India. Filmed using a variety of video recording devices, including mobile phone cameras, the film takes place over the course of four years. Presented in a specially designed semi-open cinema-like space, this work documents the men’s journeys as they travel between the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Aden and the Somali Coast. Through their lenses, and the wild and wonderful score, the extraordinary happenings at sea are juxtaposed with the ordinary life of the workers, revealing a hidden side of the burgeoning trading networks in the region.
