Forever

1994, Single-channel video installation, 27 min 26 sec

An iconic work from Zhu Jia’s prolific oeuvre, Forever established the experimental scope of the artist’s video practice. Attaching a camera to a tricycle, the artist pedalled through the streets of Beijing for 10 kilometres, documenting the daily life of local neighbourhoods through the circular motion of the video recorder. In doing so, the cityscape is morphed into a fantastical blend of shapes and colours, redefining the journey of navigating through one’s city.
