Shaped by the city’s unique history and culture, theatre in Hong Kong has developed a spectrum of styles that ranges from traditional Chinese and western theatre to experimental contemporary pieces, from adaptations of works in translation to original new productions. The diversity and vibrancy of performances generated in the city also reflects the creative talent and dedication of a growing number of passionate theatre professionals.

At West Kowloon our aim is to promote the sustainable development of local theatre. We do this by nuturing local artists, creating opportunities for the development of high quality new work, and by introducing a wide range of innovative and diverse theatrical productions to enhance the city’s cultural life.

With the opening of the Xiqu Centre and Freespace in 2019, and the future Lyric Theatre Complex,  West Kowloon is set to become one of the city’s most important platforms for local theatre development.
