This month, Freespace Happening expands to bring you two full days of music, movies and more!
October sees the return of our outdoor cinema – with two local documentaries that you can enjoy under the stars. Join us on Saturday 8 October for Hui Seewai’s The Posterist, a film that chronicles the life of Yuen Tai-Yung, the illustrator-artist who created and hand-painted over 200 iconic Hong Kong movie posters; or on Sunday 9 October for Cheung King Wai’s The Taste of Youth, about the hopes, dreams and fears of nine young people in Hong Kong.
Music remains the soul of Freespace Happening, guest music curator Vicky Fung invited young creatives including Michael Lai, Kimman Wong, Trekkerz, Nowhere Boys and Neo Yau to share with us their creative journey through original songs. More local music can be enjoyed at our regular Hoikokdaytan2046 handicraft market where you can browse local handicrafts and take part in creative DIY workshops.
Joining us on both days, The House of Hong Kong Literature hosts a special Literature Orienteering event, where you can join the hunt for Chinese poems hidden around the Nursery Park. You can also indulge your passion for words with local artists at a Book Talk, and borrow or swap books at the Reading on the Grass bookcrossing.
The popular ohmykids market with gift stalls and games organised by children will return on Saturday; and we have named Sunday as a Toy Swap Day where you can bring along toys to swap, we have even set up a Toy Clinic where volunteers will be on hand to help repair your broken toys!
On Sunday, make sure you have your dancing shoes on when local group CCDC Dance Centre leads WE Dance, our regular series of dance showcases and workshops.
Plus, there are free Tree Tours and workshops, where you can learn about the trees and plants we are growing in the Nursery Park.
Don’t miss out! Bring your family, friends and pets, and join us for a relaxed autumn weekend at Freespace Happening in the Nursery Park.
