Triggering New Interpretations of a Metropolis
Decade is a cross-disciplinary platform for music and visual content that engages audiences and reinterprets our city culturally and historically. Aiming to trigger new interpretations of the metropolis, 10 musicians from various musical backgrounds have been invited to compose a piece based on historical pictures of Hong Kong from the last 10 decades.
Decade is an online project presented by the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority and co-curated by Fieldwork Productions and the Hong Kong Film Archive. With the aim of expanding the possibilities that online and offline performances provide and exploring the art-audience interaction that happens beyond the constraints of a traditional live performance venue, Decade is the harbinger of WKCDA’s pioneering role in digital art platform development for Hong Kong and beyond.
Performed to selected heavyweights in the arts and music industries on 31 Oct 2013 at the Hong Kong Arts Centre’s McAulay Studio, Decade was then warmly received at its first public performance during Freespace Fest 2013 on 14 and 15 Dec at the West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade. With the recorded music with the live performance, the Hong Kong Film Archive screened Decade on 4 and 18 Jan as part of their “Transcending Space and Time – Early Cinematic Experience of Hong Kong” series.
