Designing on the Margins – Land, Materiality and Community
Anupama Kundoo in conversation with Aric Chen
Eko Prawoto in conversation with Shirley Surya

The opening event, “Designing on the Margins”, presents one-to-one conversations between M+ Design & Architecture curators Aric Chen and Shirley Surya and two internationally recognised architects, Anupama Kundoo (India) and Eko Prawoto (Indonesia).

Each dialogue seeks to provide a glimpse of an architectural practice shaped by the particularities of the material and social economy of Auroville and Yogyakarta. They offer alternative modes of practice (as well as affinities) to challenge and stimulate design practices in Hong Kong, and greater China.

Anupama Kundoo is known for her practice as a form of research into solving problems of affordability of construction and sustainability in all aspects, while Eko Prawoto has sought to enhance locality as design strategy to integrate architecture with the social, cultural and environmental context in his design practice.
