The Immortal Zhang Yuqiao is a play best known for the lead performance by Hong Kong diva, Fong Yim Fun, renowned for starring in dan (female lead) roles. Written by local scholar and historian Jian Youwen, the play features music and lyrics by Hong Kong maestro Tong Tik-sang.

Set during the time of the Qing invasion of southern China, the play revolves around the female lead Zhang Yuqiao, a famous courtesan. Courted by two men, surrendering Ming general Li Chengdong and resistance fighter Chen Zizhuang, Zhang chooses Chen as her lover. But when Chen is defeated and killed by the invading army, Zhang risks humiliation to marry Li and save her lover’s family. Distraught at the fate of her lover and her motherland, Zhang is unhappy in her new marriage. But soon she finds a way to use her charms to persuade Li into attempting a revolt against the Qing.
