The martial art scenes on stage of a Cantonese opera are always captivating, with lots of acrobatic movements and every detail carefully choreographed resulting in intense yet beautiful fight scenes.
This martial arts workshop, conducted by an instructor from Cha Duk Chang Children’s Cantonese Opera Association, is open to the whole family, who can acquire some basic martial art skills. During the 30-minute workshop, participants will learn how to use a spear made of recycled newspaper for sparring. Sparring is a technique commonly used in xiqu performances. Participants will also learn basic stylised movements and have the chance to demonstrate their stage-fighting skills.

Cha Duk Chang Children's Cantonese Opera Association (CDC) was founded in 2002. CDC is the only Children’s Cantonese Opera Company in Hong Kong committed to developing new, tailor-made scripts to be performed by children and for children as its audience over the years. CDC uses children's daily life for their topics and children's dialogue as the language in their scripts so that children don’t need to play adults’ roles and can act their age on stage. Children can learn to appreciate Cantonese opera and Chinese culture in a fun and age-appropriate way.
