7 June 2017 WKCDA Took Part in the World Sustainable Built Environment Conference 2017 Hong Kong
Following the attainment of Platinum rating in the BEAM Plus Neighbourhood in December 2016, the Authority was invited to share its experience at a special session titled ‘BEAM Plus Neighbourhood: From Theory to Praxis’ in the World Sustainable Built Environment Conference (WSBE) 2017 Hong Kong.
The Sustainable Built Environment (SBE) Conference Series is now considered to be the pre-eminent international conference series on sustainable building and construction. The WSBE is a triennial global event to present the best papers from the worldwide cities hosting the SBE Regional Conference. In 2017, Hong Kong was the host of the WSBE held from 5 to 7 June 2017. The conference attracted over 1,800 green building advocates and practitioners from all over the world.
24 March 2017 WKCDA Attained Its First Lighthouse Club “Derek Smyth Safety Leadership Gold Award”
The Authority scooped its first Gold Award in the Client-Developer Category at “2017 Derek Smyth Safety Leadership Awards” organized by the Lighthouse Club. It was a recognition for the Authority’s efforts to work with its contractors and their subcontractors to achieve an outstanding Safety Performance of 0.05 number of reportable accident per 100,000 man-hours worked to date. Given that there are over 2,000 workers across all its construction projects, the Authority has also introduced various Safety Management Systems which are helping ensure safety at every project with the WKCD.
Since 1990, the Lighthouse Club has organised an annual Safety Leadership Award to honour excellence in safety practices within the Hong Kong construction industry and to recognise outstanding leadership in safety. The judging panel for the award comprises industry professionals who shortlist outstanding candidates strictly according to three core criteria: safety management systems, design for safety, and the implementation of safe working practices during the construction phase.
17 March 2017 M+ Pavilion Receives Certificate of Excellence for Construction Project Team of the Year at RICS Awards, Hong Kong 2017
The M+ Pavilion project has been selected for the Certificate of Excellence in the Construction Project Team of the Year at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Awards, Hong Kong 2017. M+ Pavilion, the first permanent venue for exhibitions and arts events in the WKCD, was considered to have achieved excellence in all four core assessment criteria of the Award, namely professionalism, teamwork, innovation and technology. The award-winning M+ Pavilion project team consisted of the WKCDA’s Project Control Department, M+ users, Rider Levett Bucknall Limited and the design team of VPANG architects ltd + JET Architecture Inc + Lisa Cheung.
In its sixth edition, the RICS Awards continues to celebrate excellence, professionalism, achievement and overall contribution to the built environment. The Awards showcases outstanding achievements and developments in Hong Kong’s land, property and construction industries.
6 December 2016 WKCD awarded Platinum Rating under BEAM Plus Neighbourhood
Sustainability is a prevailing trend in global urban planning. Being one of the trial projects for the BEAM Plus Neighbourhood, West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) has achieved Platinum rating – the highest level within the rating system for its sustainability performance in areas such as master planning, environmental sustainability and energy efficiency, design of public space, as well as integration with neighbouring community.
BEAM Plus Neighbourhood is a new rating tool launched by Hong Kong Green Building Council. It comprises seven sustainability indicators -- Site, Materials and Waste, Energy, Water, Outdoor Environmental Quality, Innovations and Additions, as well as Community. Participating projects have to undergo several stages of rigorous evaluation prior to receiving the overall rating of Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze.
24 October 2016 Art Park ground-breaking ceremony
A simple ground-breaking ceremony was held on 24 October 2016 to mark the commencement of the construction of the much-anticipated public Art Park – including Freespace with a black box theatre and an outdoor stage.
2 July 2016 One step closer to green and vibrant open space as construction of Art Park commences
The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) announced today that it has awarded the contract for the construction works of the Art Park in the district to Sun Fook Kong Construction Limited (SFK) thus moving one step closer to the delivery of this new large-scale open space for outdoor art and cultural activities in the middle of Hong Kong.

The small yet important Public Infrastructure Works have recently started. The working team took part in a traditional pig-cutting baisun ritual earlier today (30 March 2016) to mark the official moving in to the site.
