On Sunday 10 February, celebrate the first weekend of the Year of the Pig with live music, dance, fun workshops and more at Freespace Happening in the West Kowloon Art Park.

This month’s music stage promises a local music extravaganza with a feast of great sounds from Hong Kong. Bringing math rock with a local twist, we have all-female foursome GDJYB plus experimental band tfvsjs. Also in the line-up are dreamy electronica duo Yeung Tung & Marstn, traditional instrumental ensemble The Gong Strikes One, rockers Milkmouth, Chonotenki, plus composer Joyce Tang and a band of contemporary musicians with soundscapes inspired by the mix of urban and natural sounds of 300-year-old Shalowan village on Lantau. Not to be missed is Solar Sound System, this month teaming up with local radio station and streaming platform, Fauve Radio, for a special livestreaming of new DJ sets.

WE Dance looks to Taiwan with TAI Body Theatre. Founded by indigenous Truku artist Watan Tusi, the troupe present a workshop and contemporary performance inspired by indigenous dance and music from Taiwan.

To get creative, or to make a special gift for Valentine’s Day, come along to the Stone Painting Workshop and Valentine Bouquet Binding Workshop at our regular handicraft market presented by “a nice place to”. Over at The House of Hong Kong Literature, you can drop in for a “Personality Reading” and take a short quiz to uncover your hidden traits, cosy up on the lawn with an adopted or borrowed book at the Reading on the Grass book-crossing, or pick up a poetry-inspired charm at the Literature Gachapon capsule vending machine.

For little ones and nature fans the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society present stories and a drawing session to learn about local endangered species and the importance of fish ponds. And for pet lovers, the pet-sitting team of Senior CID host the game “Match Me If You Can” where you can learn about pet breeds and useful tips on pet care.

And don’t forget, for a handy digital guide to the event, download our Freespace Happening app – featuring programme line-up, schedule and interactive map – or join our Facebook event page for updates as they're announced!
