Flying in from Japan, the zany all-male Condors Dance Company share an offbeat new take on the traditional bon-odori circle dance and an exciting new performance. To find out just how much fun bon-odori can be, come along to our free workshops and let the “Shar Squad” – our energetic local partners who learnt the dance with the Condors – show you the moves!

Literature

Personality Readings

Join the the House of Hong Kong Literature and uncover hidden aspects of your personality through a short literary quiz. This month, our guest author Tse Ngo Sheung, will be on site to decipher your answers with a short poem. All participants receive a small souvenir after the reading.

About Tse Ngo Sheung

A local writer and former Senior Editor of Hong Kong Economic Times, Tse is a prolific writer of novels, poetry and plays. She is also the director of the Hong Kong House of Literature.

Reading on the Grass

Bring along a book to the bookcrossing and choose a book you would like to adopt! You can also borrow books that other people have shared and read them on the lawn – even if you don’t bring any yourself.

Requirement for books:

  • We welcome books in Chinese and English.
  • We only accept books that are in good condition.
  • We only accept legal copies of books.
  • Magazines, newspapers and textbooks are also not accepted.
  • Books with obscene, violent or offensive content are not accepted.

Book crossing guidelines:

  • We suggest that you exchange the same number of books as you brought.
  • You can exchange as many books as you want.
  • Bags will not be provided, please bring your own bag(s).
  • If you did not bring a book to exchange but found a book you are interested in at the Library, you can read the book at Freespace Happening and return the book to the Library before leaving.

Literature Gachapon

Our “Literature Gachapon” capsule vending machine offers beautifully illustrated miniature poems and small, poem-inspired charms for you to take home. Capsules are $10 each.

Dreamcatcher Workshop

Get creative at our dreamcatcher workshop. Pick a semi-finished dreamcatcher and select from a range of feathers and accessories to weave together your wishes and hopes for the new year!

Thumbiano Workshop

Made from bicycle wheel spokes and wood from wine boxes, our thumbiano is a simplified version of a kalimba, the traditional African thumb piano. The eight note-instrument is sturdy and easy to play – perfect for budding and experienced musicians of almost any age!

About Sandra Wong

Born with hearing loss, Sandra is a graphic designer and crafter. Since graduating from Hong Kong Art School with a Diploma in Fine Art, she has worked as an arts facilitator in special schools and rehabilitation centres.

Arts Appreciation from a Fresh Perspective

Put on a specially adpated pair of glasses and view the work of Stanley Lo in a way that simulates the experience of people with visual impairments. You can also try out our tactile puzzles and gain a better understanding of art for the disabled.

About Stanley Lo

Born with a hearing impairment, Stanley Lo is an ADA registered artist and amateur photographer with over 20 years of experience. His enthusiasm for photography began when he was given his first camera by his father. Since then he has participated in a number of exhibitions and competitions and documented the world around him. In 2007, he represented Hong Kong at the International Abilympics in Japan where he won third runner-up in photography.

Solar Toy Playground

Come along to our solar-powered playground and try out toys powered by sunlight and other sources of renewable energy sources. You can also have a go at creating your own solar-powered toy – a fun way for visitors of all ages to learn more about renewable power!

Meet Our Dogs

This month, join us and get to know the staff and dogs of Lifelong Animal Protection (LAP). If you’re a dog lover but are unable to commit to looking after a pet or becoming a regular volunteer at a homing centre, this is the perfect opportunity to help out with feeding, grooming and walking LAP’s lovable dogs.

Park Tour and Workshop

Join “Park Tour and Workshop” for an introduction to the Art Park and discover the different tree species. You will be able to get a closer look at the trees and plants, gain some insight into the Park, and learn interesting facts and stories about some of the tree species. If you are looking for some interactive fun, following the tour there is a workshop.
