Xiqu Paper Headdress Workshop

Xiqu headdresses come in all kinds of different shapes! The shape and materials used also show the social status and background of each character. Join our workshop to learn fun facts about xiqu headdresses and make your own life-size paper model.

WE Dance

WE Dance is an exciting participatory dance programme that invites you to join fun dance activities in an outdoor environment. In September, Indonesian dance artist Rianto, joins students from the SKH Bishop Mok Sau Tseng Secondary School Dance Team for a showcase of traditional and contemporary dance from the island of Java.

Divination By Poetry

The House of Hong Kong Literature’s popular fortune-telling booth returns to Freespace Happening. Join us and have your questions answered by literary experts skilled at reading zodiac signs and horoscopes, and take home a small souvenir as well!

Reading on the Grass

Bring along a book to the bookcrossing and choose a book you would like to adopt! If you don’t bring anything along, you can still borrow a book that someone else has shared and read it on the lawn.

Requirements for books:

  • We welcome books in Chinese and English.
  • Books should be in good condition.
  • We only accept legal copies of books.
  • Magazines, newspapers and textbooks are not accepted.
  • Books with obscene, violent or offensive content are not accepted.

Book crossing guidelines:

  • You are free to exchange as many books as you want.
  • We suggest that you take away the same number of books as you brought.
  • Please bring your own bag(s).
  • If you do not have a book to exchange but there is something you are interested in at the Library, you can read the book at Freespace Happening and return the book to the Library before leaving.

Literature Gachapon

Our “Literature Gachapon” capsule vending machine offers beautifully illustrated miniature poems and small, poem-inspired charms for you to take home. Capsules are $10 each.

Nice Partner Yoga Workshop

Looking for new ways to connect with your children or partner? Join us for an outdoor partner yoga workshop and learn simple yoga poses for two while you take in the beautiful scenery of the Art Park and the refreshing sea breeze. No experience required. Suitable for families and couples.

Please note:

  • Participants are required to bring their own yoga mats, towels and water bottles. Please wear comfortable clothing appropriate for movement.
  • No changing room and shower facilities are provided.
  • No cloakroom service is available. Please take care of your personal belongings.
  • No age limit. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Participants must ensure they are medically and physically fit to participate in the workshop.
  • Participants should register at the “a nice market” booth 5 minutes before the workshop starts. Those arriving more than 15 minutes late will not be admitted. No refund will be provided.
  • If less than 5 groups are confirmed for a session, the session will be cancelled. Participants will receive details of refund arrangements from the organisers, “a nice place”.
  • The fee for walk-in registrations is $150 per pair and $75 per individual.
  • If the workshop is cancelled due to rain, inclement weather or other special situations, it will be rescheduled and held on 16 or 23 September at Yuji. Yoga’s studio in Jordon. Participants will be notified of the supplementary class arrangement by email. No refund will be made for participants unable to attend the supplementary class.

Give Yellow-breasted Bunting A Home – Participatory Installation

To help raise awareness about Hong Kong’s endangered yellow-breasted bunting, master Ng, the creator of the Pokfulam fire dragon, helps participants create a large-scale installation using straw from the paddy fields of Long Valley, Hong Kong. Join us and be part of a unique art creation!

Toy of Straw – Straw Craft Workshop

In the past, lots of villagers grew rice in Hong Kong. Although very little rice is produced here now, some local farmers are trying to bring old paddy fields back to life. In this workshop, you will learn to make toys using rice straw collected from fields in Long Valley.
