Kung Chi-shing

Kung Chi-shingAs the Artistic Associate (Music) at West Kowloon, Kung Chi-shing has led the development of many music and cross-genre initiatives, including Freespace Jazz Fest, Freespace Happening and Choreographer and Composer Lab. He studied classical music and composition in the US with Chinary Ung and George Crumb. A composer, performer and music activist, Kung is known for his work with the music performance group The Box and his experimentation with different genres, including pop, classical, improvisational music and theatre art.

Yuen Cheuk-wa

Yuen Cheuk-waAward-winning sound designer Yuen Cheuk-wa has 20 years of theatre production experience and is the current Associate Dean at the School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. A graduate of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Yuen has a Master of Fine Arts in Sound Design from the California Institute of The Arts and a Master of Science in Architectural Acoustics from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His works include Primary Shapes: an Eternal Golden Braid (Hong Kong Arts Festival) and The Dragon’s Treasure (City of Dreams, Macau).

Ted Lo
Musician

Ted LoA graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Ted Lo began his musical career as a jazz pianist in the Boston area. He has collaborated with the Ron Carter Quartet, Herbie Mann, Astrud Gilberto, Dave Valentin, Special EFX, Michael Franks, Airto Moreira and Flora Purim, and performed in renowned venues and festivals such as the Blue Note Jazz Club, the Hollywood Bowl, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, the Newport Jazz Festival and the Montreux Jazz Festival. Lo returned to Hong Kong in 1996 and has been active as a musician, educator, composer, arranger and producer in different music genres.

Tsui Chin-hung
Musician

Tsui Chin-hungComposer, orchestrator and guitarist Tsui Chin-hung graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Composition. Admitted on a scholarship, he studied under Yakov Gubanov, a pupil of Dmitri Shostakovich, and was coached by Jimmy Wyble, Scott Henderson, Eímear Noone, Robert Drasnin and Irina Boutyrskaya. Tsui has performed in Europe and Asia, and worked with musicians such as Coco Lee, Zhou Bichang, Kay Tse and Ivana Wong.

Joyce Cheung
Musician

Joyce CheungJoyce Cheung is a pianist, keyboardist, arranger, composer and educator. She graduated with an MA in Performance from the Berklee College of Music in 2017 and was an awardee of the Berklee Entrance Scholarship. Cheung is currently Managing Director of Ritzy Live, where she arranges and performs in music events and other creative projects. She has performed in mainland China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Spain and the US.

Rodney Ma Lap-yin

Rodney Ma Lap-yinFounder and production director of ARIFF Production, Rodney Ma Lap-yin has over 20 years of experience in creation and production for theatre, dance, films, television, music, commercial videos and multimedia projects. Between 2013 and 2020, Ma was artist-in-residence in media design at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

Jan Wong
Spatial Designer

Jan WongSet designer and art director Jan Wong graduated from the School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2011 after majoring in Set and Costume Design. Since graduating he has worked on a number of theatre and dance works, and won awards for his designs for The Island Whispers, Reveries of the Red Chamber and Hu Xueyan, My Dear.

Ma Ka-wai
Lighting Designer

Ma Ka-waiVisual artist Ma Ka-wai specialises in lighting and audiovisual designs for concerts, installations, events and videos. She graduated from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with a Bachelor’s degree in Lighting Technology and studied Creative Media and Entertainment Technology at the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education. She has created lighting design for concerts by a number of Asian music artists including RubberBand, Candy Lo, Vicky Fung, ToNick, Terence Siufay, Vivian Chan Wai-man and NiLiu.

Jason Szeto
Sound Designer

Jason SzetoGuitarist, composer and arranger Jason Szeto studied Digital Music and Media at the Hong Kong Design Institute and is currently a BA student in Music Recording at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. As well as being a performer and accompanying musician, Szeto has participated in a number of multimedia projects such as 420 Bad Trip (2019) and NATP 2020 (2020).
