Huang Kai-Yu (Taiwanese, born 1971), better known as fish.the, has been an electronic musician and DJ for nearly twenty years. He is proficient with different electronic instruments and has been teaching applied digital music at Chung Yuan Christian University since 2007. His expertise and position as a university lecturer earned him the title ‘Professor of Electronic Music’ in Taiwan. Throughout his career, he has been involved in scoring music for commercials, theatre works, new media projects, and documentaries. In 1999, with Taiwanese musician Lim Giong, he founded Fluidmix music studio and published a book titled 2001 E-Generation: Electronic Dance Music Bible. The pair won Best Original Film Score at the Golden Horse Awards in 2001 for Millennium Mambo, directed by Hou Hsiao-Hsien.

fish.the has played in several indie bands, such as Sam-seng-hiàn-gē and Kichiku Girls, and has performed solo. Having released his first solo album in 2016, he explores different sounds and combinations in his shows. His work encompasses elements of electronic, experimental, industrial, ambient, and Chinese temple music through sampling and modulating various compositions.
