Want to help put Asian exhibitions on the (Wikipedia) map? Come join our upcoming Wikipedia Edit-a-thon on exhibition histories in and about Asia on Saturday, 24 November, at Asia Art Archive’s offices in Sheung Wan.

Following up on March’s Wikipedia Edit-a-thon on Women in Art in Asia, M+ and Asia Art Archive now present a Wikipedia Asian Month: Edit-a-thon on Exhibition Histories. With the assistance of Wikimedia User Group Hong Kong, the event brings together participants to discuss, create, share, and improve articles and information about exhibition history in and about Asia on Wikipedia. Books and research materials will be provided.

Art exhibitions are important pieces of art history in their own right. Even some of the most famous art exhibitions and projects in and about Asia either have very short articles on Wikipedia, or none at all. This is a discrepancy this event aims to address.

The Edit-a-thon helps participants edit Wikipedia to improve its coverage of art exhibition history in Asia. Aligned with Wikipedia Asian Month 2018, which addresses the underrepresentation of articles about Asia on Wikipedia, this event is part of an ongoing effort to contribute to discussions about the representation of art and visual culture in Asia on open source knowledge platforms.
