Between 8 and 12 June, to accompany the Hong Kong debut of his acclaimed dance work From a True Story (d’après une histoire vraie), French choreographer Christian Rizzo, director of the ICI – CCN Montpellier, leads a five-day professional dance workshop at our new venue Freespace.

During the workshop, Rizzo will work with dance artists and visual artists to explore choreographic languages and visual arts compositions, looking at the relationship between movement, performance and space, the creation of “performance landscapes”, and the non-paradoxical state of being part of a group but alone.

Over the five days, participants will use a playful, non-analytical creative process of physical communication, observation and contact to construct an experimental collective practice and work-in-progress performance piece.

Participants will be encouraged to expand their personal choreographic fields and immerse themselves in the communal experience. By combining their individual singularities and opening themselves to the imaginative possibilities generated by the group, they will improvise and create compositional forms together as one body.

On 7 June, Rizzo also leads a public discussion by looking at his work and the importance of emptiness as a space for imagination. Details will be announced soon.

The workshop and discussion are part of an on-going three-year exchange between West Kowloon and the ICI – CCN Montpellier (Institut Chorégraphique International – CCN Montpellier-Occitanie/Pyrénées-Méditerranée).
