WE Dance

WE Dance is an exciting participatory dance programme with outdoor workshops and demonstrations that are free and open to all. This month, join Imran and Kimberly, professional dancers with the ASK Dance Company from Malaysia and learn the basics of Zapin, a popular Malay folk dance with roots in Persia. Imran and Kimberly will also perform Eclectic Shift, a new arrangement of an original contemporary work inspired by traditional dances from Malaysia and India.

Literature

Divination By Poetry

Presented by the House of Hong Kong Literature, the popular fortune-telling booth returns to Freespace Happening again this month. Head on over and have your questions about the future answered by a writer versed in the art of reading zodiac charts and horoscopes. All participants receive a small souvenir at the end of the reading.

This month’s fortune teller is Hong Kong poet and publisher Keith Liu, the author of two poetry anthologies: Not Even the Sound of Blossom and The Beach is as Quiet as a Stopped Clock.

Reading on the Grass

Bring along a book to the bookcrossing and choose a book you would like to adopt! You can also borrow books that other people have shared and read them on the lawn – even if you don’t bring any yourself.

Requirement for books:

  • We welcome books in Chinese and English.
  • We only accept books that are in good condition.
  • We only accept legal copies of books.
  • Magazines, newspapers and textbooks are not accepted.
  • Books with obscene, violent or offensive content are not accepted.

Book crossing guidelines:

  • We suggest that you exchange the same number of books as you brought.
  • You can exchange as many books as you want.
  • Bags will not be provided, please bring your own bag(s).
  • If you did not bring a book to exchange but found a book you are interested in at the Library, you can read the book at Freespace Happening and return the book to the Library before leaving.

Literature Gachapon

Our “Literature Gachapon” capsule vending machine offers beautifully illustrated miniature poems and small, poem-inspired charms for you to take home. Capsules are $10 each to claim.

Freespace Timehub

Don’t let your dreams slip away, write them down and make them a reality!

To take part in the Freespace Timehub, simply follow these four easy steps:

  • Collect a wish card from the “a nice market” booth.
  • Write down your wishes and goals.
  • Keep the ticket stub, put the wish card into the box and make a wish.
  • Revisit your dreams and goals by collecting your Freespace Timehub wish card at Freespace Happening’s “a nice market” on 9 or 10 March 2019.

Natural Botanical Print Workshop

This hands-on botanical print workshop offers the chance to create your own hand-printed handkerchief using natural plant dying techniques. During the workshop you will also learn about the plants used in the dye extraction process and about the importance of environmental protection.

Hand-sewn Tissue Box Cover Workshop

Join handcrafter Christina from Goodafternoonwork and learn how to hand stitch your own tissue box cover. During the workshop you will also learn how to master basic hand-sewing techniques that you can use for all kinds of everyday applications.

Little Black-faced Spoonbill Pei Pei has to leave her home in Korea and migrate south with her parents to their wintering grounds. But before she can embark on her journey, there are a few survival skills she needs to learn to help her deal with the challenges ahead. Art Loops! Studio

Artwork circulation project Art Loops! has invited six visual artists with different abilities to take part in this special art encounter. The artists, hailing from Hong Kong, Japan and Taiwan, are taking part in an exchange of their own art as a form of storytelling and sharing stories and experiences from their own lives and the cities they live in.

Hoi-wai's Fast Sketches

This month, local artist Fung Hoi-wai joins us for fun life sketching sessions. Letting his emotion guide his work, Hoi-wai has developed a unique style using simple lines to highlight the unique characteristics of the people he draws, and producing results that are sure to bring a smile to your face. 

Ink Drawing Demonstration

Come along and see how Hong Kong artist Wong Yun-chuen creates ink sketches based on his observations and discoveries. Work created on the day will also be displayed in the booth.

Join “Park Tour and Workshop” for an introduction to the Art Park and discover the different tree species.
