October’s Freespace Happening brings you live music and traditional dance with a taste of Korea!
On stage, joining us specially for the event, we have Korean singer-songwriter Gonne Choi and her band presenting acoustic guitar songs fused with traditional Korean elements. Emmy the Great, from Hong Kong and the UK, brings bedroom pop reflecting the influences of her two homelands. Hong Kong’s local string ensemble, Strings Amarta, presents classical masterpieces. We also have African sounds from ONE Harmony Drumming Factory & Friends and three-piece rock band Mocking Bullet. Plus, to wrap up the evening with a feast of world-class jazz, our very special guests, jazz masters Eugene Pao, Ted Lo and friends!
WE Dance looks to Korea with workshops led by dance artist Hyeon Lee and the Alan & Becky Dance Group who share Ganggangsullae, an ancient, traditional folk dance incorporating dancing and singing.
There are also lots of other great activities around the park. The Hong Kong Bird Watching Society presents workshops on the art of making fishnet bags and how to throw a cast net, with information about the importance of local fishponds as a habitat for the endangered black-faced spoonbill.
At our regular handicraft market, presenters a nice place to offer two creative workshops – Handmade Clay Pot Design Workshop and the Natural Anti-Mosquito Brick & Deodorant Stick Workshop – where you can learn how to make your own environmentally friendly practical gift items. Local pet sitting organisation Senior CID invite you to join their educational games and learn useful tips on pet care, and the House of Hong Kong Literature returns with their popular fortune-telling booth, where you can have questions answered by literary experts, and the “Reading on the Grass” book crossing, where you can dive into a good book.
So pack a picnic, grab your family, friends and pets and join us for a special autumn Sunday at Freespace Happening.
Before you come, don’t forget to download our updated Freespace Happening app that lets you check out what’s on at our handicraft market and listen to great music any time you want on the new Music Player.
