Divination By Poetry

The popular fortune-telling booth by The House of Hong Kong Literature returns to Freespace Happening with writers proficient in reading zodiac sign and horoscope to answer your questions! Participants will receive a small souvenir at the end.

Reading on the Grass

Bring along a book to the bookcrossing and choose a book you would like to adopt! You can also borrow books that other people have shared and read them on the lawn – even if you don’t bring any yourself.

Requirement for books:

  • We welcome books in Chinese and English language.
  • We only accept books that are in good condition.
  • We only accept legal copies of books.
  • Magazines, newspapers and textbooks are also not accepted.
  • Books with obscene, violent or offensive content are not accepted.

Book crossing guidelines:

  • We suggest that you exchange the same number of books as you brought.
  • You can exchange as many books as you want.
  • Bags will not be provided, please bring your own bag(s).
  • If you did not bring a book to exchange but found a book you are interested in at the Library, you can read the book at Freespace Happening and return the book to the Library before leaving.

Our “Literature Gachapon” capsule vending machine offers beautifully illustrated miniature poems and small, poem-inspired charms for you to take home. Capsules are $10 each to claim.

Freespace Timehub

Don’t let your dreams slip away, write them down and make them a reality!

To take part in the Freespace Timehub, simply follow these four easy steps:

  • Collect a wish card from the “a nice market” booth.
  • Write down your wishes and goals.
  • Keep the ticket stub, put the wish card into the box and make a wish.
  • Revisit your dreams and goals by collecting your Freespace Timehub wish card at Freespace Happening’s “a nice market” on 9 or 10 March 2019.

Natural Anti-mosquito Brick and Deodorant Stick Workshop

Join us and create your own natural anti-mosquito brick and deodorant stick, two easy-to-make products that will help keep mosquitoes at bay and keep your body smelling fresh and clean!

  • Participants should register at the “a nice market” booth 5 minutes before the workshop starts. Those arriving more than 15 minutes late will not be admitted. No refund will be provided.
  • Participants with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (G6PD deficiency or Favism) should not use citronella essential oil. A replacement will be provided where necessary.
  • Products contain essential oil. Children, pregnant women, people vulnerable to allergies and people with skin wounds are reminded to be extra cautious in using the products.
  • Products not suitable for children under 1 year of age.
  • If the workshop is cancelled due to inclement weather or other special situations, it will be rescheduled on 21 Oct and held at Naturally You Need studio in Hung Hom. Participants will be notified of the supplementary class arrangement by email. No refund will be made for participants unable to attend the supplementary class.

Clay Pot Decorating Workshop

In this workshop you will learn how to create hand drawn patterns on pre-made clay pots and also get the chance to adopt a plant! The workshop leaders will share design tips, plant care tips and more!

Make a Pledge to the Black-faced Spoonbill

The black-faced spoonbill is an endangered bird that winters in Hong Kong. Functional fishponds are an important foraging site for these birds, so whenever you buy locally sourced pond fish you are already helping to conserve both fishponds and the black-faced spoonbill! Join us and make a handprint to pledge your support for these beautiful birds and local fishponds!

Casting a fishing net looks easy when fish farmers do it, but there is an art to throwing it wide. If you think you’ve got what it takes to be a fish farmer, come and join our net casting challenge!

Fishing-net Bag Workshop

Before machine-made plastic fishing net became available, fish farmers used to make their own nets. In this workshop, join us to learn the local art of fishing net plaiting – one of the heritage skills included in Hong Kong’s first inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage – and use this traditional skill to create your own eco string bag!

Park Tour and Workshop

Join “Park Tour and Workshop” for an introduction to the Art Park and discover the different tree species. You will be able to get a closer look at the trees and plants, gain some insight into the Park, and learn interesting facts and stories about some of the tree species. If you are looking for some interactive fun, following the tour there is a workshop.
