This seminar brings together experts from the Taiwan Film Institute and L’Immagine Ritrovata Asia to exchange their experiences in restoring Chinese-language films, prompting discussion on the current situation in Hong Kong and the way forward in preserving film art and culture.

About the speakers
Wang Chun-Chi is Director of the Taiwan Film Institute. She is a film studies scholar specialising in gender politics and cultural history of cinema, and holds a PhD in Cinema-Television Critical Studies from the University of Southern California. She was an associate professor of the Department of English at the National Dong Hwa University in Hualien, before joining the Taiwan Film Institute. Her current research areas include Taiwanese-language cinema, queer representation in film, and filmmaking as a social practice.
Jerry Chiu is Head of the Digital Restoration Department at the Taiwan Film Institute. Having worked with the Chinese Taipei Film Archive, Chiu has years of experience in film repair and is a respected specialist in the field.
Bede Cheng is Managing Director of L’lmmagine Ritrovata Asia. He has been involved in various film programmes with the Hong Kong Film Archive since 2002. Having worked as Programme Manager of the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society and Senior Programme Manager of the Metroplex, Cheng assisted in organising the first Sundance Film Festival in Hong Kong.
Gladys Lau is Film Restorer at L’Immagine Ritrovata Asia. She has participated in the restoration work of many Chinese-language films, including The Big Boss, Fist of Fury, Shaolin Temple, Made in Hong Kong, Flowers of Shanghai, Legend in the Mountain, and The 36th Chamber of Shaolin.
Lau Yam is a film critic, editor, and researcher. He has curated screening programmes of works collected and restored by film archives and collectors from different parts of the world. He is also a member of the Hong Kong Film Critics Society.
