In a depressed and drunken slumber, recently demoted Tang dynasty general Chun Yufen dreams that he visits the land of ants. After marrying the ant princess he becomes a successful magistrate. But when his wife dies, Chun abuses his power and is sent into exile by the emperor. Waking from the dream, Chun feels such remorse that he leaves to seek guidance from a monk.
