The Butterfly and the Red Pear Blossoms
Grand Theatre, Xiqu Centre , 23.02.2019
Adapted from a Ming dynasty play, this intricate tale was written in the 1950s by legendary librettist Tong Tik-sang who drew on the symbolism of classical Chinese literature to enhance the original script. The plot revolves around Zhao Ruzhou, a talented scholar, and Xie Suqiu, a courtesan, who fall in love after years of exchanging letters and poetry. Although fate conspires to keep them apart, the pair are finally united after a series of tantalising twists and turns!
