Cantonese Opera Storytime "Uncle Wu's Treasure" and Handicrafts (Online)

Join us online for a magical animated story and create your own Cantonese opera-inspired paper dolls

Specially designed for families with children living or studying in the Yau Tsim Mong District, this interactive online workshop introduces the art of Cantonese opera in a fun, creative way.

Cantonese opera tales are traditionally based around recognisable character types that are distinguished by their costumes and makeup. The four most important of these are sheng (male lead), dan (female lead), jing (painted face) and chou (clown).

The free-of-charge workshop opens with an animated retelling of the picture book Uncle Wu’s Treasure that introduces the four main Cantonese opera character types. After the storytelling, participants work with facilitators who share information about makeup, costumes and accessories and guide them to create four Cantonese opera-inspired paper dolls using supplied materials.

This event is sponsored by the Yau Tsim Mong District Office of the Home Affairs Department.
