Overview

Description

This concert showcases the work of global creators with a particular emphasis in interdisciplinary approaches to music composition. The proposed programme stems from a vision of Hong Kong as a melting pot, as a crossroad in which the local and the global coexist, embracing and integrating the diverse and the heterogeneous.

For this project, Ka-Shu Tam, Camilo Mendez, and Ramon Souto developed new works in close collaboration with the members of Vertixe Sonora Ensemble. To complete the programme the ensemble will perform pieces by Japanese composer Yuko Ohara, and a multimedia work by Taiwanese composer Lin-Ni Liao.

Ka-Shu Tam is a local composer currently based in the US, his sound world is intimately related to Hong Kong. The idea of building musical objects is at the centre of Mendez’s work. Souto's pieces explore the physicality of sound using extreme musical gestures, while Lin-Ni Liao’s work deals with interculturality, and finally Yuko Ohara's compositional approach is linked to scientific concepts.
