A role-playing game exploring the dilemma between contemporary life and human well-being
Description
Hong Kong media artist Vvzela Kook’s role-playing game A Village Idyll on a Radioactive Field contemplates the implications of nuclear power for people and the environment. Opening with the rural idyll of a ploughman nevigating in a farmland under the sun, the 20-minute game leads players through a variety of 3D scenarios, peeling away layers little by little to reveal the dark truths behind the idyllic facade.
The work is the latest creation in Kook’s ongoing research into the aftermath of man-made disasters and the controlled messaging surrounding nuclear incidents and their potentially devastating effects.
A Village Idyll on a Radioactive Field is available online between 13 February and 5 March 2023.
A Village Idyll on a Radioactive Field is presented as part of SerendiCity – a media arts festival showcasing new perspectives on art, urban environments, people and technology.
