SerendiCity: Chilai Howard – The Orchestra of Temple Street

Overview

Explore Temple Street’s cultural landmarks through an innovative online app and co-create a new kind of crowdsourced collective artwork

Description

Designed and created by Hong Kong media artist Chilai-Howard, The Orchestra of Temple Street is a free online app offering a new perspective on the multicultural urban landscape of the Temple Street neighbourhood in Yau Ma Tei.

Using location data from users’ mobile phones, the app generates customised real-time visitor experiences, as well as individual and collective soundscapes reflecting local businesses and communities, and user walking routes. The crowdsourced information and soundscapes are in turn combined to create an online audio-visual interpretation of this multicultural neighbourhood. The app also includes site-specific animated filters and effects, allowing users to create unique records of their visit.

The Orchestra of Temple Street is available online between 13 February and 5 March 2023.
